Michael Mann, Owner of SwimLabs

Michael Mann



Mike is the owner of SwimLabs Swim School, where he enjoys working with swimmers of all ability levels and ages. He also coaches Masters Swimming at the University of Denver and the Greenwood Athletic Club. For the past 24 years, Mike has enjoyed swimming competitively as a Masters swimmer. He currently holds 11 Masters World Records and has twice been named World Masters Swimmer of the Year.

Mike grew up swimming in Colorado, eventually swimming at Littleton High School before moving on to the University of New Mexico where he was a distance swimmer and water polo player. After graduating, he continued swimming as a Masters swimmer. His favorite event is the 400 IM, because it gives him the chance to swim all four competitive strokes. He currently holds 11 Masters World Records, and has been twice named Masters Swimmer of the Year.
Mike's personal accomplishments include being married for 28 years, and raising three wonderful daughters.

Brooke Mann


Brooke has been with SwimLabs since January of 2007. She grew up swimming for the Heritage Village Sea Lions, The Greenwood Tiger Sharks, and for Littleton High School. While enrolled at Littleton, she also played Lacrosse, and other sports.
After High School, she attended the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, where she studied Human Communications and Psychology.
She is currently working towards a Masters Degree through Regis University.
Last Summer, she completed her first Triathlon, and this summer, she plans on running her first Half Marathon!
Jonathan Cain

Jonathan Cain


Jonathan was born in California but has lived in Colorado for most of his life. He started swimming at 6 months old, and has loved swimming ever since! As soon as he could, he started swimming for his local summer club team, the Berkeley Bullfrogs, in Denver. In High School, he swam for George Washington. When he graduated, he moved on to Ripon College, where he swam for 4 years, helping to break 8 team records along the way.
As a teen, Jon became a Red Cross Water Safety Instructor and worked as a lifeguard in the City of Denver. He also started coaching, and has been doing so ever since. In his time as a lifeguard, he also became a certified Red Cross Lifeguard and CPR Instructor, and managed several swimming pools throughout the Denver Metro area.
Jon says, "One of the most rewarding aspects of this job for me is helping people find the joy that swimming has always brought me in my life. I love working with people of all skill levels and helping them learn to swim faster. I especially love working with kids and watching them grow into swimmers!"
In addition to Coaching and Teaching at SwimLabs, Jonathan is the editor of the COMSA Mastersplash, and loves skiing- occasionally working as a Ski Instructor at Loveland Ski area.
Jessie Pennington, SwimLabs

Jessie Pennington


Jessie has been swimming since she was 4 years old. At the age of 5 she joined her neighborhood swim team, the Willow Creek III Dolphins, and swam with them every summer until she graduated High School.

As a summer league swimmer, Jessie’s strengths were fly and free. Her favorite event was the 100 fly. During High School, Jessie was also a lifeguard and swim instructor for Front Range Recreation and South Suburban Parks and Recreation. Jessie has taught Private Lessons for over a decade, and has been involved in water sports for all of her life.

In College, Jessie was a rower for Seattle Pacific University, where she coached varsity men’s and women’s rowing teams for eight years.

Jessie has a masters degree in Sports Administration and leadership from Seattle University, and hopes to someday open a leadership institute for high school and college coaches.
Adam Avery, SwimLabs

Adam Avery


For the past several years Adam has studied Exercise Science and Sports Medicine for CSU. He grew up swimming in Heritage Village and for Littleton High School, and most recently has played Water Polo for CSU.

He has been a swim coach for 5 years, and has been teaching at SwimLabs for 3 summers. He’s worked with the entire range of swimmers, from 3 year olds up to competitive high school swimmers and top tier triathletes.

Jessica Shaddock, SwimLabs Swim School

Jessica started swimming when she was 10 years old in California for Canyon Crest swim team. From there, she moved teams to the Mission Viejo Nadators. Once she come back to Colorado, she started with Greenwood Athletic club and in the summer she swam for Willow Creek 1 and then Cherry Creek Vista. She was on the Varsity swim team at Cherry Creek High School all four years and went to state three of those years. She swam for Metro State College of Denver for five years and graduated in May of 2010 with a degree in social work. Jessica has been coaching Cherry Creek Vista swim team for the past seven years during the summer. She has also been an assistant coach at Greenwood Athletic club. She is very excited to be a part of the SwimLabs team.
Giff Cutler, SwimLabs Swim School

Giff Cutler


Giff Cutler is one of the Founders of SwimLabs. He has been involved in swimming, both as an athlete and a coach for his entire life.
In high school, Giff was a standout athlete in Texas, following the senior circuit. He was a perennial finalist at the high school state meet, specializing in Backstroke and IM events. In college, Giff moved on to the University of New Mexico, where he was a three-sport athlete. As a freshman, Giff made the conference championships, just missing a D1 NCAA Nationals Cut in the 400 IM.
After College, Giff moved back to Durango CO, where he coached skiing at Purgatory for 8 years. He continued his swimming career as a Masters Swimmer, and after moving to the Denver area, coached the Castle rock bronze level team.
Giff loves working with Swimmers of all different ability levels.
In his free time, he loves enjoying the Colorado Outdoors- skiing, water skiing, and Biking. Giff has a wonderful wife and twin boys, who just graduated from High School.
Jill Burge, SwimLabs

Jill Burge


Jill has 30 years of swimming experience! At a very early age she joined her first swim team, where she really found her niche in the distance races, particularly the 500 meter freestyle and the 100 meter backstroke. She swam for the Aurora Gators at Utah Pool throughout her childhood. In college, she taught swim lessons during the summer for the Rec Center in Grand Junction, where she attended Mesa State College. She has swam off and on for a Masters team over the last 10 years and has hopes of competing in her first Triathalon this year. She has three children, 17, 8, and 6. Her two younger ones are beginning to develop a love of swimming through SwimLabs on the Sawfish Swim team!
David Lee, SwimLabs

David Lee



David was born and raised in Minnesota where he began swimming competitively at age 6. After becoming a state high school champion as a swimmer, he attended the University of New Mexico on a full athletic scholarship. He was a top 20 NCAA swimmer and a member of a nationally ranked water polo team in college.
After college, David coached swimming and water polo on the age group and High School level before spending 3 years overseas as a teacher in the Peace Corps. He holds a BA in Philosophy and an MBA in Finance. After spending many years in the banking and real estate industry he began devoting all his time to coaching and teaching swimming in 2006. David was always drawn back to the water and swam, taught and coached swimming on a part-time basis throughout his entire professional career. Over the years he has coached many competitive swimmers, master’s swimmers and triathletes with great success.
David has been a full-time instructor at SwimLabs for the past three years where he has kept up on the latest stroke techniques and innovations. He loves coaching and teaching. He currently coaches two masters swim teams and is a swim coach for a triathlon team.

Kristi Selfridge


After living on the East Coast, Kristi is incredibly excited to have returned to Colorado where she was born and raised. She’s even more excited to continue her career as a swim instructor at Swim Labs.

Kristi was a water baby, and continued loving the water so much that she found teaching people of all ages how to enjoy and respect the water was where her heart will always be. She started teaching swim lessons at Fort Lewis College in Durango and continued at Montana State University where she earned her Bachelors Degree in Photography. In Delaware, she spent 17 years teaching swim lessons and adult water exercise classes at the YMCA.

Besides swimming, Kristi loves hiking in the mountains and spending time with her husband and two beautiful boys. She stayed true to her Broncos even on the East Coast where she battled those terrible Eagles fans and was rewarded by the Broncos first Superbowl win while pregnant with her first boy!

Devon Eynon


Devon has been swimming since she was 3 years old. By the age of 9 Devon and her twin sister took their swimming from the backyard pool to the summer league team CARA. From CARA the next team was MACS. By the age of 12 Devon and her sister had finished 1st and 2nd at Colorado State Championship meet.
Devon held numerous state records that year, if only for a brief 15 minutes or so until her sister took to the pool and went on to be the record holder. Devon swam for Gateway swim team in high school, from there Devon went on to Metro State College.
As a swimmer Devon's strengths were butterfly and the IM races. She has also participated in some sprint triathlons over the years. She enjoys being active and helping people be healthy, and to achieve their goals.
Over the last 5 years Devon has entered into the world of swimming again, but this time on a different path. She was a volunteer coach for the Eaglecrest Girls High School swim team for one season. Next she stepped into summer time pool management and began teaching swim lessons for the first time. Instantly she found it to be a natural fit. She has been successful teaching lessons ranging from 9 months old to 45.

Jenna Morgan, SwimLabs

Jenna Morgan



Jenna has loved the water her entire life. She grew up spending summers at Lake Powell swimming and waterskiing and did swim team while growing up. Once in college, Jenna got into triathlons and found herself loving the multisport lifestyle. Swimming is definitely her favorite discipline of the three. She has now done 10 triathlons and plans on an ironman in the near future. Jenna recently graduated in Studio Art from Brigham Young University and moved to Colorado where her husband, Sam, is attending medical school. In her free time she enjoys, skiing, waterskiing, biking, running, hiking, and painting.

Laurel Wright


Laurel has been swimming since the age of 6. Inspired to love the water from her father a deep sea water diver at a very young age.

Laurel followed in her older siblings foot steps becoming a lifeguard at the age of 16 and also started teaching swim lesson in the last year. Laurel loves working with children and watching them achieve their goals in the water.

She gradated high school in 2009 from a private school. In her spare time Laurel loves challenging herself as a athlete. This last summer she swam across a lake in McCall Idaho spanning over 2.5 miles.

Her personal goals include continuing her swimming life style and hopes to swim across the English channel.
Stephanie Coray, SwimLabs Swim School

A water baby her whole life, Stephanie started year-round competitive swimming when she was nine because there were no more swim lessons to take. She swam competitively through high school at Smoky Hill and college at Coe College, specializing in the Fly, Breaststroke and IM events. She now focuses on distance freestyle as well as her bike and run and races in a couple triathlons every summer.

Stephanie first started teaching swim lessons in college and created the Castle Pines Piranhas (now the Castle Pines Crocs) shortly after graduating. She loves coaching and watching her swimmers progress, no matter what age level. Always happy to share her favorite sport with whoever is willing to listen, Stephanie feels it's never too late to improve your stroke; you just have to keep an open mind and a positive attitude and you can do anything! Stephanie has been with SwimLabs since 2008 and loves the amazing power of the learning environment here. She feels the combination of the talented staff and the technology available is second to none and hopes to continue working with SwimLabs for a long time.
Kim Roland, SwimLabs

Kim Roland



Kim has always loved the water! She started swimming at the age of 5 and has never slowed down. Kim was part of several teams in Aurora and swam competitively for over 10 years. She began teaching in Aurora public schools in 2003 and has taught a wide range of abilities since. She also coaches the Junior Development Program for Red Rocks Swim Team at Cherokee Trails High School. She is fun, bubbly and excited to be a part of SwimLabs!
Gill Thompson, SwimLabs

I started swimming competitively when I was six years old and swam all they way through high school. I attended Arapahoe High School and was on the state team my Sophomore, Junior, and Senior year. I am currently an Assistant Varsity Coach at Arapahoe High and also am the Head Coach of a summer league swim team. My long term career goals are to be a teacher and a swim coach.
Barbie Barker, SwimLabs Swim School

Barbie Barker



Barbie has been participating in swimming as an athlete and coach since she was six years old. As a child, Barbie swam for the Birmingham Bloomfield Atlantis Club, and the Birmingham Athletic Club and Oakland Hills Country Club. In addition to swimming, Barbie also competed as a Varsity Skier and Golfer.
After college, Barbie took a short break from swimming. She graduated from Northwood University in Michigan with concentrations in advertising, sales, and marketing, got married to Husband Gregg, and had two wonderful daughters, Lindsay and Riley.
In January 2009, Barbie and her family relocated from Michigan to Colorado, and she now coaches at Aces Swim Club and works at SwimLabs.
Barbie is now in her fifth year of coaching. She is a member of the American Swim Coaches Association, and is really excited to continue coaching and teaching amazing kids in Colorado.
