The Endless Pool

Our Endless Pools are the perfect environment for learning to swim.

Our Endless Pools are the perfect environment for learning to swim.

One of the most dramatic differences between SwimLabs and traditional swimming facilities is our Endless Pools.  Endless Pools are a “flume” in which an enclosed impeller creates a “current” of water through the middle of the pool. This “current” allows us to coach our clients how to swim, and how to swim faster, with an entirely different approach than is available at a traditional pool.

Beginning Level Lessons

For our students that are just starting to learn to swim, we use the current in two key ways. One, we swim “With the Current”.  This address the 2 major issues of traditional learn to swim programs; 1 that students must first be taught to float before they can swim, and 2, that performing swimming movements while floating in a stationary position is fairly difficult, and can take a long time. Swimming with the current allows us to bypass these issues by adding momentum to students as they swim, making the Learn to Float and Learn to Swim Process easier, and consequently much faster. It also means that we are able to teach our students “only good habits”, bypassing traditional teaching “shortcuts” that must later be corrected.

Advanced Lessons and Competitive Analysis

For our Advanced Students and Competitive Athletes, we use the Endless Pool in an entirely different way. Instead of swimming “down” the current, our advanced students and competitive athletes swim “against” the current. For our advanced students, this works really well to begin building up their endurance and technique for longer swims at harder intensities. For our competitive athletes, this allows them to “swim in place”, the same way that a runner would run on a treadmill, as our coaches use our 360 degree camera system and Dartfish software to analyze their strokes.

The Bar

The Bar

The Bar

Another major feature of our Pools is the Bar we have mounted at the front of each pool, directly in the path of the current. The bar creates a stationary position in the pool that we use at every level of lesson, from beginning students with fears of the water to our competitive stroke analysis sessions.

Like our technique building tools, the Bar allows us to isolate different swimming techniques in a controlled environment.  When used in conjunction with the current, students can almost feel as though they are swimming at speed, all with the added comfort and or control of the stationary position the bar provides.

The Warm Water

SwimLabs is a warm water swim school. We always keep our water between 90-92 degrees Fahrenheit. In our opinion, keeping our pools at this temperature creates the perfect environment for learning and improving swimming- students never get cold, meaning that everyone is more comfortable. More comfortable students are more apt to pay attention and retain more during swimming lessons.

We use small, private pools for each class and private lesson.

Small Size

Our Pools are very small- more resembling a large hot tub than a regular swimming pool. This means that every class and private swimming lesson takes place in a pool dedicated just to that lesson. For our Adult program and Private and Semi Private Swim Lessons, this means that you can learn how to swim discretely, in your own pool, with just you and your instructor. In our Bubbles to Butterfly program, this means dedicated swimming pools for each class, meaning less distraction during swimming lessons.
