Visual Feedback
The problem with traditional swimming lessons and swim analysis is that there is no really good way to show students visually what they are doing as they swim. For years, instructors and coaches have had to rely on phrases like “Make Big Circles with Your Arms”, or “Make a Pizza and Cut it in half” and hope that their students understood exactly what they meant.
At SwimLabs, we have solved that problem in two ways: We have installed 4 mirrors in each of our pools, and we have also designed and installed our SwimLabs 360 Swimming View System on each of our pools.
The mirrors in our pools are mounted directly beneath the main swimming area of each pool. In our Bubbles to Butterfly Swim Lessons, this allows us to “Show” instead of just tell our students how they performed each new swimming technique.
In our Swim Improvement Swim Lessons, this allows our clients to watch “live” in the mirrors as they attempt each new swimming technique.
In both programs, this accelerates and improves the learning process, as students are better able to understand exactly how to perform and then correct each technique.
Our SwimLabs 360 Swimming View System is the other half of our Visual Feedback system. Our system uses a total of 3 cameras, one mounted over the swimming area, one mounted in front of the swimming area, along with a mobile camera, that allow us to capture 360 degree views of each swimmer in action, both above and below the water. We display video taken from each of these cameras on High Definition Monitors mounted at each pool.
For both our Bubbles to Butterfly and Swim Improvement Program, this allows us to show our students up close views of each of the techniques we are practicing, both above and below the water, giving each student all the information they need to better perform each technique.
When used in conjunction with our Dartfish Video Analysis System, video from the SwimLabs 360 Swimming View System becomes a very powerful, visual tool.
